I am a first year medical student at Emory University School of Medicine. I am officially the oldest student in my class and   I began in July of 2019. My husband and I also welcomed our son in April 2019. Balancing being a first time mom and medical student has been a challenge, but feel like everything in my life has happened at the best time for me and my family.

I discovered my interest in healthcare at Georgia Tech my senior year (more on that below). My first job out of college was for a revenue cycle consulting firm that served hospital clients. This job deepened my interest in healthcare, but I was not happy on a day-to-day basis. I felt that I wanted more meaning in my career. After a few more years of internally debating about what to do with my life, I ended up pursuing a post-bacc degree at NYU to complete science pre-requisites in order to apply to medical school. I also had a few internships and jobs in between that were not healthcare related, but helped me narrow down what I did not want to do!

Do not worry if you don't know exactly where you want to be career-wise by the time you graduate. When I was a first year student at GT I had no idea that 9 years later I would be entering medical school. I needed to have a vast array of experiences to know what I did *not* want to do. Enjoy your life, explore your hobbies and interests, and try things that will give you a wide variety of experiences with new people. Along the way you will discover what makes you tick.
